Dance championships are scheduled for Wednesday through Saturday, March 19-22 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland. More than 1,300 dancers representing teams from 69 Oregon high schools will compete for titles in seven divisions. Friday-Saturday, March 21-22: Show, 4A/3A/2A/1A, 6A/5A Large. Marshfield picked up its first win of the 2014 girl tennis season with a 5-3 win over visiting Junction City at the Boys & Girls Club in Coos Bay. Pirate Coach Aron Boesl, “ Marshfield Girls tennis team won their first dual meet beating Junction City High School 5-3 at the William J Sweet Tennis Center on Thursday. Marshfield won the one through three singles matches. Colleen Rayburn remained unbeaten on the season and Lindsay Brown and Katie Boesl moved to 2-1 on the season. New player Jodi Zousel continued to show improvement at number 4 singles spot. In doubles Marshfield duo of Abby Clough and Sara Springael continued to improve in their doubles play and only lost two games in their match. Marshfield lost at number two and three doubles in hard fought matches. The match of the day was at number four doubles where Elizabeth Kupfer and Madison Brugnoli came back and won a second set tiebreaker and then won the match in a match break set 10-4. “Madison Brugnoli is an intense competitor and she really pushed her and Elizabeth to a higher level of tennis today, they were very excited in the comeback. We had three matches this week and it really will pay big dividends by the end of the year.”

North Bend’s track team opened the 2014 season at the Siuslaw Icebreaker in Florence Thursday. No team scores were kept. Marshfield’s girls won the Pirates Icebreaker track meet to open the 3014 prep season on Prefontaine Track in Coos Bay Thursday. Hidden Valley won the boys portion over Marshfield . Pirates winners: Javelin Hunter Drops 167-06; Pole Vault Hunter Drops 14-03. Pirate girls: 100H Isabel Groth 17.08; 300H Isabel Groth 51.28; Discus Tracee Scott 102-02; Triple Jump Adryana Chavez 34-08.
