Marshfield’s softball team tuned up for the upcoming playoffs with a 6-4 win at Gold Beach (17-6) Thursday. The Lady Pirates (21-6) will host Mazama (20-5) of Klamath Falls Wednesday, May 27, in the First Round of the 4A OSAA State Playoffs at Coos Head Field in Coos Bay. The Lady Pirates won the Far West League, and the Vikings were second in the Skyline Conference to Henley.

Marshfield scored three runs in the top of the first in their “Play-In” baseball playoff game at Sweet Home Thursday, but the host Huskies (16-7) came back with four runs in the bottom of the first en route to a 6-3 win over the Pirates (11-5) and a date in the first round of the 4A OSAA Playoffs.

North Bend’s baseball team will host Sweet Home in the First Round of the 4A OSAA State Playoffs Wednesday, May 27, at Clyde Allen Field in North Bend. The Bulldogs (20-5) won the Far West League, while Sweet Home (16-7) was second in the Sky-Em Conference to Sisters.

North Bend’s boys were second and Marshfield’s girls third at the OSAA 4A State Track & Field Championships Saturday at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene. The Bulldogs (64.50 pts.) were second to Henley (75.50 pts.) and crowned two champions. The short relay team of Luke Lucero, Cameron Lucero, Drew Matthews and Drae Stark won in 42.03, while Matthews (21-05.25) also took the Long Jump. Other scorers for North Bend were: Junior Luke Lucero (11.31) fifth in the 100, and Matthews (11.34) came in sixth. In the High Hurdles, Cam Lucero (14.96) was second, while Stark (15.27) took fifth. Stark (23.29) was also eighth in the 200 and third (43-03.25) in the Triple Jump. Senior Nick Hossley placed seventh (2:01.73) in the 800, and junior James Jordan (5-10) tied for sixth in the High Jump. Sophomore Brody Lucero was fifth in the Javelin (169-04). Marshfield’s boys were 12th (19 pts.) with junior Hunter Drops winning the Pole Vault (15-06) and taking second in Javelin (177-07), while classmate Sawyer Heckard scored the other point with an eighth place finish in the 3000 (9:00.77) Friday. Marshfield girls crowned champions with the 4X100 Relay team of Hannah Beaulieu, Brittany Cook, Adryana Chavez, Madelyn Metzler winning in 49.44, and junior Isabel Groth taking the Long Jump (17-02.50) on her final leap. The Pirates tallied 55 points for third in an All Coast sweep of the top places. Astoria won with 76 points, followed by Newport in second with 69, followed by Marshfield. Individually for the Pirates: Junior McKenzie Allison (125-09) was second in the Javelin, Groth (15.92) was third in the 100H and seventh (48.33) in the 300H, Metzler (25.54) took third in the 200, and senior Adryana Chavez (35-06.25) came in fifth in the Triple Jump. North Bend tied for 12th with 16 points. Individually for the Bulldogs: Junior Gabby Hobson (2:27.54) was eighth in the 800, junior McKenzie Edwards (46.97) third in the 300H, and senior McKenzie Gauntz (10-06) placed third in the Pole Vault.
