Marshfield’s softball season ended in the first round of the OSAA 4A State playoffs at Coos Head Field in Coos Bay, Wednesday, May 27, to visiting Mazama of Klamath Falls, 7-3. The Lady Pirates (21-7), winners of the Far West League, jumped in front with runs in the second and third, but the Vikings (21-5), who tied Henley for first place in the Skyline Conference, but ended up as the No. 2 seed, got two in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 2-2. In the fifth, Mazama erupted for five runs on five straight hits, four RBIs and jumped out 7-2. Marshfield got one back in the bottom of the sixth, but stranded two in the seventh before a groundout ended the Lady Pirates 2015 season. Junior Khalani Hoyer was 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and sophomore Katie Maine was 2-for-4. Junior Carli Clarkson was on base three times and scored twice. The FWL’s No. 2 team, Douglas, won 4-3 at Gladstone and will play Friday at Mac-Hi in Milton-Freewater.

North Bend advanced to the quarter-final round of the OSAA 4A State playoffs Wednesday, May 27, with a first round playoff win over visiting Sweet Home (16-8) 7-4. The Far West League champion Bulldogs (21-5) advance to the second round to face No. 1 ranked Henley, Friday, May 29, 4:30 p.m., south of Klamath Falls. Henley (24-3) beat Cascade 5-1.
