Marshfield’s boys captured the North Bend Invitational Cross Country meet Wednesday at Tugman State Park near Lakeside. The Pirates tallied 37-points to runner-up North Bend’s 58. Brookings-Harbor was third with 71, followed by Siuslaw with 87, Bandon 110, Pacific 141, Oakland 200, Gold Beach 238 and Coquille 251. Siuslaw took the girl’s race with 25-points, followed by North Bend with 43, Bandon 47 and Oakland 109. Seth Campbell of Siuslaw won the boy’s race in 16:11.25. Chris Burton of Brookings-Harbor was second in 16:31.77. He was followed by Marshfield’s Sawyer Heckard (16:40.14) in third, Michael Brown of North Bend was fourth (16:42.36), followed by Marshfield’s Colby Gillett (16:47.54) in fifth and the Bulldogs’ Nick Hossley (17:20.43) in sixth. The Pirates’ Dakota Pittullo was 8th (18:12.55); John Hampton 9th (18:13.92); Iam Emlet 12th (18:22.51); Cody Harkins 29th (19:04.33); Brett Wyatt 63rd (22:09.01). For North Bend: Alberto Ramierz 15th (18:26.47); Noah Graber 16th (18:27.36); George LaGesse 17th (18:28.97); Philip Kuckuck 22nd (18:46.95); Daniel Koechel 42nd (19:58.81); Jacob Adams 46th (20:17.25); Grady Hampel 59th (21:02.31). Individually in the girl’s race: Bandon freshman Sailor Hutton was the overall winner in 19:38.32. She was followed by Siuslaw’s Celie Mans (19:42.32). North Bend’s Gabby Hobson was third (20:09.63), she was followed by Hailey Finnigan 9th (21:49.89); Janelle LeBlanc 12th (22:21.29); Megan Rutherford 13th (22:23.84); Alissa McCord 15th (22:33.89); Alyssa Monahan 23rd (23:30.37); Hannah Shupe 24th (23:42.30). For Marshfield: Jane Suppes 22nd (23:29.59); Maddy Suppes 30th (24:09.18); Metzin Rodriguez 37th (25:16.02); Darci Schaefer 50th (29:13.50). North Bend won both of the three-team JV races. Individually, the Bulldogs’s Kate Riley was first in the girl’s race (23:45.48), and the Pirates’ Ethan Cleveland took the boy’s race (20:18.55).

Marshfield’s volleyball team downed visiting Churchill in three straight Thursday night in Coos Bay. The Lady Pirates won 25-22, 25-22, 25-12 to improve to 4-0 on the season. Hailee Woolsey led Marshfield with 11 kills, while Shaylynn Jensen recorded seven. The Lady Pirate JV team also won, 25-2, 25-10.

Elmira spoiled Marshfield’s home boys’ soccer opener with a 2-1 win at Pete Susick Stadium in Coos Bay Thursday. The girl’s team went to Elmira and lost 8-0.
