Marshfield’s volleyball team lost one, but won two matches at the Hidden Valley Tournament Saturday near Grants Pass. The Lady Pirates defeated Klamath Union 25-8, 25-15; beat Brookings-Harbor 25-15, 25-9; but lost to Crater 24-26, 10-25. Hailee Woolsey led Marshfield with 18 kills and six service aces.

Marshfield lost 20-6 at Sutherlin in a non-league football game Friday night. Matt McCallister scored the lone TD for the Pirates on a one-yard run in the third quarter. Marshfield (1-1) hosts Newport in their home opener this coming Friday night. Newport (1-1) downed Tillamook 28-19 last Friday.

North Bend improved to 2-0 with a 56-15 non-league prep football win at Cottage Grove (0-2) Friday night. Bullldog quarterback Cam Lucero threw for 288-yards and four touchdowns. North Bend will play at Marist in Eugene this Friday night. The Spartans (1-1) lost at home to Silverton 34-13 Friday night.

In other prep football games involving Far West League teams, Siuslaw (2-0) won at Scio 28-22. Brookings-Harbor (0-2) lost at Illinois Valley 35-20. South Umpqua (1-1) dropped a 30-24 decision to visiting North Valley. Douglas (0-2) lost at Hidden Valley 41-6, Thursday night.

Arcata swept the top two places in the team races at the Brookings-Harbor Invitational cross country meet Saturday. Marshfield placed second in the boy’s race, while North Bend was second in the girl’s race. Individually, Arcata runners took first as well, but Marshfield’s Sawyer Heckard was second (16-46.74), and North Bend’s Michael Brown came in third (16:51.79). The Pirates Colby Gillett was fourth overall (16:57.07), and the Bulldogs’ Nick Hossely was seventh (17:30.0). North Bend (4-0) beat visiting St. Mary’s Medford 1-0 in a boys’ soccer match at Vic Adams Field Saturday. The Bulldog girls (1-2) lost at St. Mary’s 2-0.
