Marshfield opened the 2014 prep volleyball season with a straight set win over visiting Sutherlin Tuesday night at the Pirate Palace in Coos Bay (25-17, 25-6, 25-17). Lady Pirate coach Tammie Montiel “We played really well for our first match out. We served the ball tough and kept Sutherlin out of their system of what they wanted to do. One thing to highlight for sure would be the serve receive of Gabby Bryant. A 2.2 serve receive ratio out of 3 is what our goal is, Gabby passed a 2.68 tonight!” Marshfield also won the JV match (25-7, 25-22). Marshfield next plays Thursday at Newport.

North Bend dropped its volleyball opener at home to visiting Junction City Tuesday night, 3-2 (25-13, 25-18, 17-25, 21-25, 16-14). The Bulldogs are scheduled to participate in the Reedsport Jamboree today.

North Bend’s boys opened the 2014 prep soccer season with a 4-1 win at Junction City Tuesday. The girl’s team lost their opener at home to visiting Philomath 2-0.
