CCSO release – The Coos County Sheriff’s Office concluded its saturation patrols over the Memorial Day Weekend. Deputies patrolling the roadways partnered with the Oregon State Police (OSP) to keep our streets safe. Coos County deputies conducted 13 hours of extra patrol and had 6 citations and 39 warnings issued. Two felony arrests were made while conducting these patrols. On this weekend the Cape Arago Highway and Bunker Hill areas were concentrated on during the Saturday evening shift. Sunday night our focus was on Myrtle Point, Powers and Bridge areas. Coos County would like to thank our partners in the Oregon State Police for a great operation. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office also had a busy start to the summer season on the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area (ODNRA). Deputies investigated 3 Driving under the Influence of Intoxicant (DUII) cases from the ODNRA (OSP assisted by taking two of them). Five citations for Minors in Possession of Alcohol were issued and only one crash was investigated. A motorcyclist was attempting to skim the water with the motorcycle and crashed. The operator was taken to Bay Area Hospital with reported back injuries. Sergeant Will Coleman, the 29 year veteran supervisor of both the Dunes and Marine Patrols said, “We were definitely busy this weekend! It was a good start to the summer with only one crash. Many citations were issued and many more warnings given. And we did not have any rain on Memorial Day Weekend.”
