Lee Valley Rd., CCSO release – On July 4, 2018, at about 5:07 pm, a Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy and a Bureau of Land Management Law Enforcement Ranger were conducting patrol checks of BLM Lands at about Mile Post 10, on Lee Valley Road in the Fairview area of Coos County. There had been recent dumping of garbage in the area and the law enforcement officers were patrolling normally. This area has a river access and is commonly referred to as the Lee Valley Boy Scout Camp (which it had been in the 1970’s and 1980’s). Upon his arrival (the Ranger was still on his way to the area), the deputy parked his vehicle and began walking down one of the dirt roads. While walking the deputy saw a black colored Saturn sedan pull onto the road, appearing to head for the main Lee Valley Road. The car then stopped and backed up rapidly. The deputy ran towards the vehicle, suspecting nefarious behavior was afoot. In the short distance the deputy found the car sitting with the driver side door open and a woman in the passenger side of the car. Deducting the driver had fled on foot; the deputy detained the woman for investigation. The BLM Ranger arrived shortly and began assisting in the investigation. The deputy called for K9 Odin, who with his handler Sergeant Adam Slater responded to the scene rapidly. Sergeant Slater cast K9 Odin around and struck a fresh spoor of the fleeing person. The track led Odin down toward the river (which is the North Fork of the Coquille River) and then turned upstream. The person was discovered hiding in thick brush off of the trail beside the river just upstream about 75 yards. Chad Stevenson, 49 years old of Coquille, was taken into custody for active warrants for his arrest out of Douglas County, Oregon for Contempt of Court and an abscond warrant for parole and probation out of Siskiyou County, California. This marks K9 Odin’s 69th career capture. During the course of the investigation into the vehicle and its occupants, a quantity of methamphetamine which was packaged separately for sale (approximately 4 grams), extra packaging material (i.e small plastic baggies), scales which are commonly used for measuring quantities of narcotics, and a large sum of money (over $2,000 in US Currency) was located and seized. The woman, identified as Maryanne Roberts, 40 years old of Coquille, had the individually packaged bindles of methamphetamine in her purse. Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Coos County Jail. Stevenson is being held at the Coos County Jail on the no bail warrant for abscond from California, was cited for the Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine ($25,000 bail) and cited for the contempt of court warrant from Douglas County ($5,000 bail). He will be referred to the Coos County District Attorney for Manufacture of a Controlled Substance (Schedule I). Roberts was cited and released after booking for Unlawful possession of Methamphetamine and will be referred for Manufacture of a Controlled substance (Schedule I).
