Marshfield’s baseball team won its 2018 season opener 13-6 (5), in a game called due to darkness at Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay. The Pirates jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and then rode the arm of freshman Tyler Thornton to hold off the Knights. Marshfield (1-0) is scheduled to play at Taft in Lincoln City Monday 4:30pm, and then host Junction City Wednesday, 4:30 p.m., at SWOCC.
