Marshfield’s boys’ basketball team wrapped up a COVID-19 influenced season by winning their first State Championship since 1953. The Pirates (12-4) downed Cascade of Turner 60-54 in the 4A Classification’s Les Schwab Tires 2021 State Championships played at the Pirate Palace in Coos Bay Friday. Marshfield downed Woodburn 54-47 Thursday in the semi-finals at North Bend HS to advance to the title game to face the Cougars, which beat previously unbeaten Banks in the earlier semi-final also at NBHS. Marshfield juniors Mason Ainsworth, Pierce Davidson and Dom Montiel were named to the All-Tourney Team. The Pirates graduate one starter off their roster, Noah Niblett.
