Marshfield’s boys will face defending 4A state champion Scappoose in the first round of the OSAA 4A basketball tournament at Liberty High School in Hillsboro Thursday, March 10, 6:30 p.m. The two teams also opened the 2015 tournament against each other and the Indians prevailed 57-46 en route to their championship over North Marion. Both teams won their playoff games this past weekend to advance to the Final 8. Marshfield downed Molalla 49-28 Friday in Coos Bay, while Scappoose bettered visiting Newport 60-44 Saturday night. Scappoose (19-7) and Marshfield (24-2) met earlier this season back in December with the Pirates winning 48-36 in Coos Bay. Henley (17-6) & Philomath (22-3) will open the tourney (1:30 p.m.), followed by Gladstone (16-8) & Cottage Grove (19-6) (3:15 p.m.), and Cowapa League rivals Astoria (19-7) & Seaside (21-3) (8:30 pm.) close out the tourney’s first day. The 4A girls tourney starts at Forest Grove High School Thursday, before shifting to Liberty for the semi-finals Friday and finals Saturday.
