Marshfield advanced to the First Round of the OSAA football playoffs with a 62-26 “Play-In” win Friday night over visiting Sweet Home in Pete Susick Stadium at Coos Bay. The win advances the Pirates (7-2) to the “Round of 16” and a home game next Friday night with Banks (6-3), which finished in a three-way tie for second place in the Cowapa League. The winner advances to the quarter-finals.

Top-ranked and unbeaten North Bend (7-0) will open the 4A OSAA football playoffs with a home game Friday night, Nov. 4, 7 p.m., at Vic Adams Field. The Far West League champions will play La Grande (4-5) the No. 2 team from the Greater Oregon League. South Umpqua (5-3), the Far West League’s No. 2 team, also had a bye from the “Play-In” round and will host Baker (7-2) on Friday, Nov. 4, in Tri City.

The last two Far West League volleyball teams in the post season playoffs fell Saturday ending league co-champions Siuslaw and Douglas’ seasons. Siuslaw had the top seed but lost 3-0 at home to Tillamook. Douglas had to travel to Eastern Oregon where the Trojans lost to Baker 3-1. The OSAA 4A State Championships will be held Nov. 4 & 5 at Forest Grove High School.

North Bend’s girls beat visiting Ontario 3-1 Saturday at Vic Adams Field to advance to the first round of the OSAA 4A State Soccer playoffs. The Bulldogs will play at Molalla on Tuesday, Nov. 1. FWL champion Brookings-Harbor will host Scappoose on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 1 p.m. North Bend’s boys, champions of the FWL, will host Molalla on Wednesday, Nov. 2, while Brookings-Harbor hosts Stayton on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 1 p.m.
