Marshfield’s softball team has added an extra game to the regular season. The Lady Pirates will host Central Linn, Monday, 5 p.m., at Coos Head Field in Coos Bay.

Marshfield opens the 4A/3A/2A/1A OSAA State Boys Golf Championships at Emerald Valley Golf Club near Creswell Monday. The Pirates will be one of the first three teams to tee off between 7:30 a.m. and 8:06 a.m. Scappoose and Junction City are paired up with Marshfield. Jane Suppes of Marshfield is at the girl’s championships at Eagle Crest Ridge near Redmond also beginning Monday.

The North Bend High School girls doubles tennis team qualified for the OSAA State 4A/3A/2A/1A state championships by winning three matches before falling to Henley in the semi-finals. Hannah Schandelmeier-Lynch and Allie West will compete this weekend at the OSU Tennis Complex in Corvallis.
OSAA Power Rankings
Playoff bound North Bend and Marshfield both finished in the top 10 of the OSAA 4A Power Rankings for baseball and softball. The ranking froze Saturday night following the end of the regular season. North Bend (14-1, 19-4), the 4A Far West League champions, and Marshfield (11-4, 16-7), the second place team in the FWL this season, are both ranked No. 9 going into the post season playoffs. North Bend’s girls are ranked No. 20.

Far West League baseball champion North Bend gets a bye from the 4A Play-In round and will host a First Round OSAA playoff game at Clyde Allen Field. The opponent will depend upon the results of the Play-In round and Power Ranking matchups. Second place So. Umpqua will host Scappoose and third place Brookings-Harbor travels to Sisters. Both Marshfield and North Bend are in the Softball Play-In round. The Lady Pirates, the second place team in the FWL will host a Play-In game against Junction City (No. 3 Sky-Em League 9-6, 14-11). North Bend (8-7, 12-9), the FWL fourth place team, will travel to Sweet Home (No. 2 Sky-Em League 13-2, 18-6). First place Douglas has a bye, third place South Umpqua travels to Mazama in Klamath Falls. According to the OSAA playoff procedure, the Play-In games will take place on Thursday, May 19, leaving May 20 & 21 open in case of inclement weather.

Marshfield qualified 26 athletes for the OSAA State Track & Field Championships at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene May 20-21, following the two-day 4A Far West League District Championships at Douglas High School in Winston Friday and Saturday. The group is the largest head coach Mac McIntosh has ever taken to the State Meet as the Pirates swept both the boys & girls’ titles. Marshfield’s boys won with 263.5 points to North Bend’s 257. Siuslaw was third with 98, followed by Douglas 69, South Umpqua 59.5 and Brookings-Harbor 51. The Lady Pirates won by two-points over Siuslaw, 239-237. North Bend was third with 178, followed by South Umpqua 98, Brookings-Harbor 66 and Douglas 16. Top two automatically qualify for State, as well as those who hit a state qualifying standard.
