UPDATE 01/12/2023 10:00 AM – Mr. Doffing has been located and is safe. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was contacted Thursday morning by the California Highway Patrol and learned that Mr. Doffing had been located with his pickup on the side of the road near Stockton, California. Mr. Doffing was taken to an area hospital for evaluation as a precaution. As part of the efforts to locate Mr. Doffing, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office activated a Missing Endangered Person Alert (MEPA). Working in conjunction with the Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon State Police, information about Mr. Doffing and his vehicle were displayed on highway reader boards throughout Oregon informing drivers to be on the lookout for him and to call police if located. The purpose of a MEPA is to help locate individuals who may be vulnerable due to a cognitive ability, age or health related concern. “This incident qualified for one of these alerts and we believe it was highly effective in bringing awareness to Mr. Doffing’s case,” Lt. Brad O’Dell said. “We are thankful to our State partners for this technology and the ability to employ this tool in the appropriate circumstances.” The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the public for their assistance in looking for Mr. Doffing and helping to reunite him with his family. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Douglas County Search & Rescue, Oregon State Police, Oregon Department of Transportation and numerous community members.
