On Friday, December 30, 2016, at 4:55 pm, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was notified by Jean Glassford that her 80 year old husband, Rollyn Glassford, was missing. Mr. Glassford left his home in the 17000-block of North Umpqua Highway on foot around 2:15 pm and had not returned, which is unlike him. Deputies gathered information and responded to the area with Search and Rescue personnel. As part of the effort to locate Mr. Glassford, the Sheriff’s Office activated an AlertSense message, an emergency notification system, to alert residents in the area of the circumstances and provided a description of Mr. Glassford. At approximately 9:50 pm, a citizen called to report that he had located Mr. Glassford in the 300-block of Trask Court. Deputies responded to the area and confirmed that Mr. Glassford had been located. He was found to be approximately 1 mile from his residence. Mr. Glassford was evaluated by EMS at the scene, but was not transported. The citizen who found Mr. Glassford told deputies he became aware of the search from neighbors who had learned about the incident. Residents who would like to register their cellular telephones or VOIP phones to receive AlertSense messages may do so at www.dcso.com/alerts.
