News release LCSO.  On May 31st, 2017 at about 9:00 PM The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing hiker in the wooded area north of the Roads End area which is just north of Lincoln City. The caller reported dropping off friend in the area for a day hike. The hiker, Anthony Andrew Craig, age 33 of Gresham, was to call back when he was ready to be picked up. The caller had not heard back and Craig was not responding to text messages or phone calls. Deputies responded immediately and searched the area and Lincoln County Search and Rescue was activated at about 10:10 PM. At about 10:38 PM dispatched received a 911 call from Craig, but poor cell phone reception prevented a conversation; whoever coordinates were obtained for Craig’s location. The caller also reported getting a call from Craig telling him that he was injured and not able to walk out. At 12:49 AM SAR teams located him stuck on a ledge of a steep cliff face over the ocean. He seemed disoriented and did not follow commands to remain at this location. The team could not reach him and made arrangements for special equipment to retrieve him. Before the equipment could be deployed Craig could no longer be seen at the location. The area was further searched through the night and into the early morning hours of June 1st, but difficult dangerous terrain and poor weather required SAR and deputies to call off the search at 6:30 AM until conditions improved. The United States Coast Guard could not fly the area due to weather conditions. At about 9:00 AM today the Coast Guard was able to deploy a helicopter in the area and conduct a search. They were not able to locate Craig. At about 1100 hours today Craig was able to walk to help and has been reunited with his friend.
