News release Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. On 07/13/2016 at 10:10 AM, Coos County Sheriff’s Office took a report from the Gott Family in the Community of Dora/Sitkum, east of Myrtle Point, that 73 year old Phillip Gott was overdue, coming home from work. It was reported that Mr. Gott worked in the Coos Bay area and normally was done with work around 6 to 6:30 AM and then usually drove home to his residence in the Sitkum area by way of Sumner/Fairview and Lone Pine Lane to Sitkum or sometimes from Coos Bay to Coquille then Fairview and Lone Pine Lane to Sitkum. The family advised that they last heard from Phillip Gott after he got off work Wednesday morning at 6:47 AM and called advising he was on his way home. Mr. Gott never arrived at his home. Mr. Gott was reportedly driving his 1999 green Honda Civic. Family members and friends, along with Sheriff’s Deputies searched the routes from Coos Bay to Sitkum with negative results. On 07/14/2016 at about 6:39 PM, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office received a report that Mr. Gott’s vehicle had been located between mile post 23 and 24 on Sitkum Lane at a location called Devils Gate Gorge down an embankment in to the Coquille River. Members from Dora and Fairview Fire Departments and Myrtle Point Ambulance responded to assist in rescue and recovery. By 8:30 PM, fire and rescue units recovered Mr. Gott’s body from the wreckage. The cause of the accident and Mr. Gotts death is still under investigation.
