News release from the Coos Co. Sheriff’s Office. Narrative: On January 6, 2015, at about 1745 hours, Deputies were dispatched to the area near Mile Post 3 on Fat Elk Road, Coquille. Louis Tomlinson called 911 and reported himself and Lalania Sturman and Melissa Parker-Johnson, were out mushroom picking in the area and had become lost in the dark. Using the cell phone GPS, dispatch was able to locate their approximate location. Deputies and Coquille Ambulance personnel searched for approximately 45 minutes before locating the three subjects. Lalania was having back pain and was unable to walk. The other two subjects were cold, but otherwise uninjured. Deputies had to carry Lalania on their backs for approximately a half mile through thick brush and several creeks to the awaiting ambulance. Lalania was transported to Coquille Valley Hospital by Coquille Ambulance. Coos County Sheriff’s Office deputies were assisted by Coquille Ambulance and a neighbor, Cody Reynolds.
