CBFD news release.  December 7, 2017 just after 9:00 pm, the Coos Bay Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire located in a single wide mobile home located at 1231 Embarcadero Circle.  Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found smoke coming from the unoccupied house, but no flames were visible.  It was discovered that the fire was under the home and was burning up through the floor and into the rear bedroom and bathroom.  Once firefighters were able to gain access to the crawlspace of the house, they were able to extinguish the fire below before moving into the house to finish extinguishing the fire.  The house was severely damaged due to smoke and fire throughout, and it is considered a total loss.  Value of the structure is estimated at $20,000 and contents valued at $6,000.  After an investigation, it was determined that the cause of the fire was due to a malfunction in the furnace system.  It is unknown if the house was insured.  No injuries were reported.  For further information, contact Fire Chief Mark Anderson at 541-269-1191.
