North Bend took over sole possession of first place in the 4A Far West League football race Friday night with a 30-6 win at home over visiting So. Umpqua. The Lancers fall into a second place tie with once-beaten Marshfield and twice beaten Douglas. The Pirates downed visiting Siuslaw 70-20 in Coos Bay, while the Trojans got a home win over Brookings-Harbor 28-22. With two games remaining in the regular season, next Friday Douglas (2-1) is at North Bend (3-0), Marshfield (2-1) travels to Brookings-Harbor (0-3), and Siuslaw (0-3) plays at So. Umpqua (2-1).

North Bend’s Michael Brown won the Paul Mariman Invitational 5K cross country race at Philomath Saturday. The Bulldog senior won with a time of 16:37.5. Teammate George LaGesse was 9th (17:18.9) as North Bend placed 8th out of 25 teams. Marshfield’s boys came in 7th as Valley Catholic of Beaverton won the varsity race. Marshfield was led by senior Ian Emlet’s 28th place finish (18:16.6). He was followed by: 44 Gabe Delgado 18:36.6; 46 Jonathon Sampier 18:37.4; 49 Jeremy Roe 18:40.3; 67 Isaac Hasel 19:08.7; 93 Ethan Cleveland 19:44.1. North Bend boys: 68 Chandler Pruett 19:11.1; 77 Tyson Flitcroft 19:16.8; 89 Donovan Oakes 19:35.5; 94 Jacob Adams 19:45.2; 100 Dylan Geier 19:59.3. In the girl’s varsity race, North Bend was seventh out of 19 teams. Marshfield did not field a varsity team, but individually, the Pirates’ Jazmin Chavez placed fourth in 19:39.7. She was followed by freshman Kaylee Delzotti 14th place finish (21:20.8). North Bend was led by Megan Rutherford, 17th (21:43.8); 28 Janelle LeBlanc 22:24.9; 33 Samantha Shook 22:42.0; 52 Kate Riley 23:40.5; 68 Elizabeth Salathe 24:09.1; 77 Alyssa Monohon 24:38.6. Both varsity teams run at the George Fox XC Class in Newberg on Saturday, Oct. 15.
