Save the date! Mr. Bulldog vs Mr. MHS Volleyball – Monday March 20th at 7:00pm in the NBHS Gym. Come support our Bulldogs as they take on the Pirates for a good cause! Mr. Bulldog will support the Children’s Miracle Network and Mr. MHS is supporting the Share Bear Snack Program.
OSAA Dance
Marshfield’s dance team, The Upbeats, finished fourth at the OSAA State Dance Championships in Portland Saturday night. Stayton won the 4A/3A/2A/1A division with 91.33 points, followed by Valley Catholic 90.95, Scappoose 79.72, and Marshfield 77.70.
Prep bb
Marshfield’s baseball team opened the 2017 prep season with a tie at the Seaside Tournament Saturday on the North Oregon Coast. The Pirates tied Elma, WA 4-4 in five innings of play. Later in the day, Marshfield beat Ft. Vancouver, WA 10-0 in five innings. The Pirates (1-0-1) play at Elmira on Wednesday, March 22. North Bend lost to visiting Willamette 12-5 on Friday at Clyde Allen Field. The Bulldogs (0-2) host Taft on Friday, March 24.
MHS Icebreaker
Six meet records fell during the annual Marshfield Icebreaker Track & Field Meet on Prefontaine Track inside Pete Susick Stadium at MHS in Coos Bay Friday. Eleven teams participated. The Pirate boys and girls teams scored the most points. The boys ran away with 174 points to North Bend’s 113, followed by Junction City and North Valley tied for third with 86 points each, then Bandon 55, Powers 53, Pacific 46, Sutherlin 19, Glide 18, Camas Valley 9. The girl’s race was closer with Marshfield beating North Bend and North Valley, which tied for second, 121 to 117.5. Junction City was fourth with 71 points, followed by Camas Valley 46, Pacific 43.5, Glide and Sutherlin tied for seventh with 37 points each, then Bandon 20 and Powers 17.5. Four records fell on the boy’s side, 800 (2:06.22, Zane Olive, Bandon); 300IH (41.60, Hunter Comyford, NV); 4X100R (44.43, MHS); and, 4X400 (3:32.99, MHS). Two records were broken on the girl’s side: 1500 (5:14.48, Shayla Solomon, JC); and, Pole Vault (10-04, Khaley Aguilar, MHS). There were two double winners for the boys: Senior Jackson Stallard, Powers, 100 (11.70) & LJ (20-07.75), and senior Hunter Comyford (NV) 300IH (41.60) & 400 (52.81). The MHS relay team of Matthew Hampton, Devin Benson, Trevor Johnson & Zach Kellar, won both races (400R 44.43 & 1600R 3:32.99). For the girls, Camas Valley senior Jazman Wilberg won three events, TJ (33-10.50), 100H (16.70) & 100 (13.44). North Valley sophomore Baylee Touey won two events, 200 (26.70) & 400 (60.16). Marshfield next competes at the Frank Good Preamble Classic in Sutherlin, Thursday, March 23rd, and North Bend goes to the Siuslaw Icebreaker Thursday, March 23rd in Florence.
