North Bend Tugman Invitational Report:
Report from MHS XC Coach Steve Delgado. All of the Far West League teams were present on Wednesday September 14th for the North Bend hosted meet that serves as the preview of the District course. Marshfield Boys finish 4th out of 10 scoring teams with impressive results for the runners. Sophomore Gabe Delgado led the Pirate boys with an overall 10th place finish in a field of 78. His time of 17:52 was a :48 lifetime PR that places him 8th on the all-time list for MHS Sophomores, a 1:12 improvement over his previous season best at Fern Ridge 11 days ago and a 2:21 improvement over his time on the course last year. Freshman Jonny Sampier turned in yet another PR performance finishing 23rd in 18:34. A :36 improvement over Saturday’s PR race at Ash Creek. Junior Isaac Hasel, the lone upperclassmen for the Pirate Varsity squad in the race, was third for the Pirates in a lifetime PR of 18:42 taking :21 off his previous lifetime best. Kyran Erwin, the other Freshman Varsity runner, would improve on his previous lifetime PR by 4 seconds to go 19:40. On the Girls’ side Sophomore Jazmin Chavez would finish 3rd overall in a field of 51. Her time was not a season PR but was :40 faster than her time last year on the course. Jazmin ran alone chasing the tandem of State Champions Sailor Hutton and Celie Mans who pushed each other to a fast result with Sailor pulling ahead for a small margin in the final meters. Freshman Kaylee Delzotti improved her lifetime best by :56 and was 6th overall. A position that bodes well given two of the runners ahead of her are non-FWL competitors. Kaylee looks for a top 5 finish at District as a qualifier for State. The next nearest freshman was 2:10 behind her. The Coed JV race would see two Pirates top the standings with Juniors Maddy Suppes and Ethan Cleveland taking the overall titles. Maddy’s time of 23:44 brings her within :05 of her season record last year and :33 of her lifetime PR as she has her sights set on a sub 23:00 performance this season. Ethan Cleveland came up one second short of his lifetime PR on the same course last year in the District meet clocking 18:49. The time was a 1:31 improvement over his best this season. Fellow Junior Andy Prince broke the 20:00 barrier going 19:53 for a :59 improvement on his season best.
