No. Umpqua River Drowning, July 3

On Sunday, July 2, 2017, at 3:39 pm, the Douglas County 911 center received a report of an adult male in the North Umpqua River, near the 800-block of Del Rio Road, who appeared to be unresponsive and in need of rescue. The male, later identified as 65 year-old Kurt Gleim of Las Vegas, Nevada, was pulled to shore by bystanders who attempted life saving efforts until emergency personnel arrived. Despite efforts of the bystanders and emergency personnel, Gleim was declared deceased. Witnesses who were an an outing with Gleim told Marine Deputies they had launched their tubes from Amacher Park today at approximately 3:00 pm. Gleim fell out of his tube at the first set of rapids near the Rod and Gun Club and became caught in a whirlpool. Gleim had a life jacket with him, but was not wearing it at the time of the incident.
