North Bend City Council Requests Citizen Input, Jan. 27

The current North Bend Visitor Information Center has been located in the current building in Simpson Park since 1949. The City Council has been studying the matter for some time and believes the 67 year old facility needs to be redeveloped. The City Council is eager to hear from citizens about their views on the ideal location for a new Visitor Information Center and suggestions for criteria to be used in selecting the location of the North Bend Visitor Information Center. The input received will help the Council arrive at a decision for the facility and its location in North Bend. The following is a partial list of potential sites for the Visitor Information Center: • Simpson Park; • Lincoln Square; • North Bend Community Center. The following are examples of potential criteria to be used to locate a new Visitor Information Center. • Visibility from the road. • Ease of vehicular access from the road. • Availability of RV parking. • Public restrooms. • Picnic area. • City owned property. • Proximity to North Bend commercial area. • Proximity to main tourist traffic areas. • Natural surroundings. • Redevelopment cost (site acquisition, provision of utilities etc.). Comments can be mailed to City Hall, P.O. Box B, North Bend, OR 97459, sent by e-mail to toconnor@northbendcity.org, or in person at the City Council’s next work session or council meeting February 8 or 9th, 2016. Citizens are asked to submit suggestions no later than February 9, 2016. From the list of submitted locations and criteria the Council will evaluate and select a location and plan that best fits the needs of the city. Once a plan is decided upon the City Council will (depending upon the location) send the plan to the City Parks Committee for recommendations and to the Planning Commission for a conditional use permit. The City Council of North Bend thanks you for your input!
