Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into the cause of Monday evening’s fatal traffic crash that occurred on Highway 20 just east of Eddyville in Lincoln County. The crash resulted in the death of a North Bend-area man. According to Lieutenant Justin McGladrey, on November 18, 2013 at approximately 6:03 p.m., a 1998 Chevrolet 2500 pickup driven by NATHAN S. SMITH, age 26, from Coquille, was westbound on Highway 20 near milepost 23 when it crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane. An eastbound 2000 Mac truck pulling a semi-trailer driven by CRAIG A. DEE, age 47, from Salem, veered to the right shoulder in an attempt to avoid the oncoming pickup but collided nearly head-on with the pickup. The pickup’s right front passenger, WILLIAM ROGER BEAUDRY II, age 39, from North Bend, was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was using safety restraints. SMITH was not injured. Both were using safety restraints and their vehicle is registered to West Coast Contractors. DEE was not injured and was also using safety restraints. The truck is registered to Pacific Coast Transportation. The two lane highway was closed for 90 minutes before being open to one lane of travel. The highway was completely re-opened about 10:30 p.m.
