The NBHS Competition Cheer team took first place in four categories in rolling to the West Coast Championships at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Southern California, March 23.

Visiting Douglas scored a run in the top of the sixth inning against Marshfield Tuesday night in Coos Bay and that was the difference as the Trojans (1-0, 1-5) won the 4A Far West League opener for both schools 8-7. Tyler Campbell had two RBIs for the Pirates that scored three runs. Marshfield (0-1, 0-3) hosts Cottage Grove today, 4:30 p.m., in a non-league game. In other FWL games, Brookings-Harbor (1-0, 4-2-1) won at Sutherlin (0-1, 0-5) 9-1.

Marshfield lost its 4A Far West League softball opener at Douglas in Winston Tuesday. The host Trojans (1-0, 3-0) won 14-10. The Lady Pirates (0-1, 1-4) are scheduled to play at Cottage Grove today at 4:30 p.m. In other FWL games, South Umpqua (1-0, 2-3) won at Siuslaw (0-1, 0-3) 9-4.

Newport (3-3) downed visiting North Bend (0-7) 14-7 in a non-league baseball game Tuesday.

North Bend lost a non-league softball game at Newport Tuesday, 10-0. Newport’s Kristin Cochran strikes out 15 (accounting for all of North Bend’s outs) while throwing a five inning one-hitter. The Lady Bulldogs (0-1) host Reedsport today at 4:30 p.m.
