South Umpqua and Brookings-Harbor will meet at Marshfield High School in Coos Bay tonight, 6:30 p.m., to break the third place tie in the boy’s basketball race. The winner will advance to the “Play-In” round of the state playoffs. Marshfield and North Bend will follow in a boy’s playoff game to determine the FWL’s No. 1 and No. 2 seeds.
OSAA rankings
All four of the Bay Area’s 4A high school basketball teams could be in the upcoming state playoffs. That’s if the OSAA Power Rankings hold up through the freeze tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 10 p.m. Both North Bend (21-1) and Marshfield’s (19-5) boys are in position to have a bye from the “Play-In” round and then host a playoff game with the winner advancing to the OSAA State Championships at Liberty/Century high schools in Hillsboro. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 1 and the Pirates No. 4. The outcome of tonight’s Far West League playoff to determine playoff seeding from the league could possibly change the rankings. On the girl’s side, Marshfield (14-10) is No. 17 and could face league foe Douglas (14-9), at Winston, in a “Play-In” game Friday or Saturday. North Bend (11-10) is No. 24, which is the last possible playoff spot. If the Bulldogs hold that position, they could possibly play at Mazama (16-8) in Klamath Falls. However, everything will fall into place after the final games Tuesday and the rankings freezing at 10 p.m.
