North Bend fell 9-8 to visiting Newport Wednesday in an OSAA 4A baseball playoff game at Clyde Allen Field in North Bend. The loss ends the Bulldogs’ season at 17-10.

Marshfield’s softball team fell in the “Round of 16” OSAA 4A playoffs Wednesday with a 6-3 loss to Gladstone at Wilsonville High School, south of Portland. The Gladiators scored three-runs in the bottom of the first inning that held up throughout the game. Marshfield (17-11) got a couple back in the seventh, but the Gladiators (26-1) held on to advance to the quarter-final round. The Far West League’s other two remaining teams also fell in the “Round of 16.” League champion South Umpqua (17-9) lost 6-3 at home to Banks, while Douglas (18-7) fell 5-0 at Henley near Klamath Falls.
