Thursday, July 1, 2021 @ Noon @ 2455 Pacific St, North Bend, OR 97459 – North Bend Mayor Jessica Engelke and the City Council invites North Benders to the opening of the North Bend Municipal Pool. The Bay Area Chamber of Commerce will facilitate the ribbon-cutting ceremony, with special guest Oregon State Representative Boomer Wright on hand for the festivities. In addition, North Bend Fire & Rescue will be cooking up fire dogs to be served up for free with chips and drinks. The pool will operate for free for July, August, and September, thanks to the $187,000 state-funded grant awarded to the City of North Bend from the Oregon Community Foundation’s 2021 K-12 Summer Learning program in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The funding is paying 100% of the startup and operational costs of the municipal pool for the summer. The pool will then be closed for three months to perform critical infrastructure repairs and upgrades. In May 2021, North Bend voters approved a five-year levy to fund the Operations and Maintenance of their municipal pool for the FY22 – FY26 budgets. Those funds will start coming in as North Benders pay their property tax bills in November 2021. Not covered by the levy are the capital and infrastructure costs to operate the pool. In addition, the administration expects to ask the North Bend City Council to consider a ballot initiative in May 2022 to set pool rates for non-city residents.
