City of North Bend release – Mayor Jessica Engelke and City Councilors ceremoniously began filling the North Bend Municipal Pool Tuesday, April 11th! The facility closed since September 2021 when parts nearly 70 years old began to fail just after residents backed a levy to keep the pool open. Every dime of that levy remains in a restricted account to fund pool operations for the next five years. Approximately $1.2 million in capital infrastructure repairs have been made to the pool at zero cost to taxpayers, including a new boiler, filtration system, pumps, ADA-compatible lift chair, shower upgrades, and LED lighting upgrades. In addition to state and federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, the City of North Bend is grateful for support from the Judith Ann Mogan Foundation and Coquille Tribal Community Fund. After turning on the water to the facility, staff provided the governing body members with a behind-the-scenes tour of the upgrades. Additional volunteer work days are planned for June 1, 2023, pool opening day. The pool is currently hiring for lifeguards and other staff positions.
