Some members of the North Bend city staff recognized the city’s birthday on Thursday, Dec. 28th. A news release from the city – On this day in 1903, Louis Jerome Simpson took the first step towards shaping our beloved North Bend by petitioning to incorporate the small townsite of Yarrow and the area developed by his father, Asa Simpson, at the north bend of Coos Bay. While these petitions typically led to swift city incorporations, 1903 was an exceptionally busy year for Oregon’s legislature. On December 28th of that year, Senate Bill 5 was passed, officially chartering the City of North Bend. As we celebrate, let’s remember our humble beginnings and the visionaries who laid the foundation for our vibrant community. Here’s to 120 years of growth, resilience, and community spirit!
