Forecast rainfall amounts have been bumped up for Curry County. The heavy rain will cause river rises, especially near the coast. At this time, minor flooding is forecast on the Coquille River at Myrtle Point beginning Friday, then impacting downstream areas with minor flooding around Coquille beginning Saturday. The ocean, coastal areas will experience strong winds at times. Storm force winds will produce large waves that could impact south-facing beaches and ports, especially during high tides into Friday. Ocean winds and waves – Through Saturday. Breaking wave heights of 15 to 25 feet are forecast for the beaches. Storm force winds between 55 mph and 65 mph will be likely through early Friday. As a result, south-facing beaches and ports could see the largest impacts from ocean winds and waves, especially during high tides into Friday. Heavy rains, possible flooding and debris flows – Through Saturday – The southern Oregon coast could see 4 to 8 inches of rain. The southern Oregon Coastal Mountains could see as much as 1 foot of rainfall. Small stream flooding may occur and larger rivers will see rapid rises. The only gauged river that is forecast to reach minor flooding is the Coquille River.
