CFPA release – Happening Now – Coos Forest Protective Association is on scene of a fire north of Ophir near milepost 315. The fire is reported to be around 20 acres in size. Multiple aircraft and ground resources are in the area working to get the fire under control. Highway 101 is closed to travel in both directions. To help with firefighter and public safety, please avoid the area if possible. Second release – Good morning, neighbors. At approximately 3:30 yesterday, your local firefighters (including Sixes, Langlois, and Port Orford) responded to the O’Brien Creek Fire at MP 315, South of Humbug. We stayed on scene until about 10:00 pm to help try and stop the spread which we were told was at about 20 acres at 7pm. We lost count of how many agencies responded but included CFPA, Gold Beach Fire, Pistol River Fire, Ophir Fire, Cedar Valley Fire, Myrtle Point Fire, Green Acres Fire, Coquille Fire, Bandon Fire, Harbor Fire, Curry County Sheriff’s, Port Orford Police, Oregon State Police and ODOT. Several houses that were in direct path of the fire were saved due to this extended response. There were also multiple aircraft dropping on the fire. We don’t have an update on the fire today, but CFPA is usually very prompt at posting updates when they have them. Sixes Fire would like to commend all the firefighters and other agencies and crews who showed up for the initial attack: the amount support from all up and down the coast for this call is a true testament to just how much we all care about our neighbors and each other. Thank you, and everyone stay safe. Third release – **UPDATE** The O’Brien Creek Fire – Resources worked through the night and continue making progress today. Resources from the Flat Fire have joined the local resources to boost the efforts. The photo below was taken yesterday during initial attack by one of the aircraft on scene. The fire is: Approximately 25% contained, but forward progression has been stopped. Approximately 20-25 acres. Multiple structures were threatened but none were lost. Coy Creek Lane is still in a evacuation Level 3. Power has been restored to the area. Cause is under investigation. HWY 101 is open both directions with minimal or no delays. Fourth release – **EVENING UPDATE** The O’Brien Creek Fire – Resources worked through the heat of today and continue making progress tonight. This is difficult terrain and makes progress slow and challenging. Resources from the Flat Fire have joined the local resources to boost the efforts. The photos below were taken yesterday during initial attack by one of the personnel on scene. The fire is: Approximately 35% contained, but completely lined and plumbed. So no growth today. Approximately 20-25 acres. Multiple structures were threatened but none were lost. Coy Creek Lane is still in a evacuation Level 3, but residents are being allowed back to their homes. Power has been restored to the area. Cause is under investigation. HWY 101 is open both directions with minimal or no delays. Please use caution when traveling through the fire area.
