ODFW puts fishing “on ice” at Diamond Lake workshop, March 7

ODFW will show anglers how to make the best of snowy, icy conditions at a March 8 Family Ice Fishing Workshop on Diamond Lake.  According to Mark Newell, ODFW outdoor skills coordinator, ice fishing can be a great winter-time activity for the whole family.  “It’s easy for kids to participate,” Newell said. “And if the fishing is a little slow most of them enjoy the chance to play in the snow.”  Participants in the workshop will learn all ice fishing basics – safety on the ice, appropriate gear and how to use it, and how to care for and clean their catch. The cost of the workshop is $52 per adult and $12 per child under age 18. This includes the use of equipment and instruction. Lunch is not included.  Children under 13 years old do not need a fishing license to participate, but adults must have a valid Oregon fishing license and youth ages 14-17 will need an Oregon juvenile angling license. Youth must be accompanied by a paying adult.  For more information about the workshop, and to register, go to the ODFW website.
