ODFW Weekly Recreation Report, July 25

Dog training workshop – July 26-27 near Scio – ODFW is hosting this family friendly workshop to show you how to start training your hunting dog or get the most out of the dog you currently have. Sign up now for salmon fishing workshop – Aug. 9 – Just in time for the fall salmon fishing, ODFW is partnering with the Association of Northwest Steelheaders on an adult salmon fishing workshop on Saturday, Aug. 9 on the Sandy River in Troutdale.  Fall salmon fisheries – Many fall salmon fisheries – Buoy 10, coastal rivers, Columbia River – open Aug. 1. While it may take the fish a while to catch up in some places, it’s not too soon to be checking the gear or booking a guide trip. More information on Buoy 10 and Columbia fisheries; more information of coastal rivers.  Sea-run cutts now appearing in a river, possibly, near you – We’ve been getting reports that sea-run cutthroats are starting to arrive in the tidewaters. Consider fishing the Chetco, Siuslaw, Trask, Nehalem, Wilson and Yaquina. Check the NW and SW zone reports for the latest updates.  Point savers available July 1-Nov. 30 – If you didn’t get a chance to get a point saver before the controlled hunt deadline on May 15, you can still get one by mail or fax order thru Nov. 30. It’s fire season – Check for restrictions – Some fire restrictions are in effect. See ODF’s webpage or check with the land manager where you are headed.   Corrections to page 79-80 of 2014 Big Game Regulations – Elk Bow hunting:  Hunts 248R, 249R, 258R1, 258R2 and 259R should be on the list of those that will receive one tag valid for the general elk bow season and the controlled bow season (so with other hunts in blue text at top of page 79). Also the entire Trask Unit is open to elk bow hunting, not just NF lands within the Trask Unit. These corrections have been made to this online PDF of pages 79-80.
