ODOT release – (Old McKenzie Highway to open only on east side) – BEND — Travelers interested in accessing OR242, the Old McKenzie Highway, following its closure due to wildfire nearby will be able to do so beginning Friday, September 25th at 8:00AM. However, access will be allowed only from the gate west of Sisters to the summit at about Dee Wright Observatory. No access will be allowed on the western portion of the highway until additional firefighting and danger tree removal has been completed. ODOT had closed the entire highway as wildfire forced the closure of OR126.
