CCSO release – On May 4, 2021, at approximately 3:50 AM, A Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy was advised of a disturbance at a residence on Old Wagon Road in Coos Bay. It was reported a female’s ex-husband had strangled her dog. It was also reported she was locked in the bathroom after being repeatedly hit in the head. Prior to arrival, the suspects had fled the scene. Once at the residence the Deputy conducted an investigation and discovered the victim had been attacked and multiple phones stolen from her home by the suspects in an attempt to prevent her from call the police. The Deputy also found evidence of the dog being tied up to dangle by its throat and leg to the back of a motor home ladder. After crawling through thick brush to locate the injured dog without success, the Deputy was assisted by members from Sumner Fire Department. Ultimately the dog was rescued and the ligatures that were still tightly tied around its neck and leg were removed. The dog was taken to a local veterinarian for treatment. After tending to the victim and the injured dog, the Deputy contacted the two suspects at their residence with the assistance from a Myrtle Point Police Officer. After conducting an investigation, it was learned the suspects, 64 year old Curt H. Miller and 38 year old Curt A. Miller had been at the victim’s residence where Curt H. Miller had admitted to tying the dog up to the motor home. It was also discovered that upon Curt H. Miller’s instructions, Curt A. Miller entered the victim’s home and stole three landline phones as well as an Apple iPhone. All the phones were recovered and returned to the victim. Subsequently, Curt H. Miller and Curt A. Miller were arrested and transported to the Coos County Jail without incident. Curt H. Miller was booked into the Coos County Jail for Domestic Assault 3, Conspiracy to Commit Burglary 1, Theft 1, Criminal Mischief 1, Interference with Making a Report and Aggravated Animal Abuse 1. Curt A. Miller was booked into the Coos County Jail for Domestic Assault 3, Burglary 1 and Theft 1.
