Open House, Mingus Park Scout Cabin, Oct. 21

City of Coos Bay release – The City of Coos Bay Parks Commission is inviting the public to an open house at the Mingus Park Scout Cabin located at 840 West Park Roadway in Coos Bay on Saturday, October 21. The open house will begin at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. The event will roll out information on the Adopt-A-Park Pilot Program and begin recruitment of potential “adopters”. Adopters can sign up to assist in specific ways to support efforts to enhance user enjoyment of city parks. The pilot program will focus on three projects: Rehabilitation of the 1940 Works Progress Administration (WPA) City Park Community Building Marshfield, Oregon – which is now known as the City of Coos Bay Mingus Park Scout Cabin; New compostable dog bag waste stations in John Topits Park; Trail maintenance in John Topits Park. Stop by and find out about the cabin history, why it is called the Scout Cabin, why it is important to maintain this park asset, and discuss how to bring it back to the community meeting hall it once was! For more information on the Adopt-A-Park Pilot Program or if you have photos and stories to share about this cabin, please contact AdoptAPark@coosbayor.gov.
