Oregon Hwy. 42 bridge construction begins next week in Winston, May 6

ODOT release – WINSTON – Oregon Hwy. 42 motorists should expect intermittent lane closures and delays as bridge construction begins at the west entrance to Winston. The Lower Lookingglass Creek Bridge, located a quarter mile east of Douglas High School, was built in 1949 and needs several repairs. The $712,000 project will repair damaged concrete, replace the bridge rails and strengthen the deck. This will involve pouring an additional four inches of concrete on top of the existing road surface. Prime contractor Oregon State Bridge Construction will begin installing signs and setting up the work zone on Monday, May 6. Bridge work will likely begin later in the week. All work is scheduled to be completed by August 30. June bridge closure: Due to the narrow width of the bridge, there is not enough room to perform some necessary work while allowing traffic to cross. Therefore, ODOT will close the bridge up to four consecutive weeks, tentatively scheduled for June 13 to July 3. Detour maps are available on the project website, www.LookingglassBridge42.com.
