When Jace Fry makes his start against Stanford this weekend, the left-hander will be the reigning Pac-12 Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. He was named the conference’s top pitcher of the week on Monday by commissioner Larry Scott. Fry’s honor comes after the junior tossed seven scoreless innings in an 11-0 win over Arizona on Sunday. He held the Wildcats to just one hit – an eighth-inning single – while striking out five with two walks. He lowered his earned run average to 1.81 on the year with the effort. It’s his second honor – and third all-time – with the first coming after a March 8 no-hitter against Northern Illinois. It is the 71st all-time weekly honor for an Oregon State pitcher, second only to Stanford. He is the seventh OSU pitcher to be honored twice in the same season since the then Pac-10 unified in 1999. Others include Matt Boyd (2013), Sam Gaviglio (2011), Greg Peavey (2010), Dallas Buck (2005), Scott Nicholson (2001) and B.R. Cook (1999).
