It was hard to watch the Oregon softball team’s three-game sweep of Louisiana this past weekend and not be excited about what could be in store for the Ducks. The matchup between the No. 2 Ducks and No. 9 Ragin’ Cajuns was set up like an NCAA Super Regional, with two top-10 teams meeting in one game to open the series Friday, followed by a doubleheader. Oregon (41-5) took on a Louisiana pitching staff that was allowing opposing batters to hit just .171 and battered it for 18 runs in the first two games. The Ducks played error-free defense in all three contests, and ace Cheridan Hawkins limited the Ragin’ Cajuns to two solo home runs in her 11 1/3 innings, well under their NCAA-leading average of more than two homers per game. “It’s very encouraging,” said UO coach Mike White, whose Ducks host California this weekend in the penultimate series of the regular season.

The Oregon State softball team scored six runs in the second inning, but could not hang on to an early lead, as No. 7 UCLA (40-8, 14-3 Pac-12) took a 11-6 win Saturday afternoon at the OSU Softball Complex. The Beavers (25-22, 5-15) will wrap up their 2015 home slate Monday, when they host Senior Day at 4 p.m.

Senior J.B. Bryant worked a walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th inning Sunday, giving the Oregon baseball team a 3-2 victory over Washington as the Ducks took two of three in the series. The teams traded runs in the third, with Washington taking a 1-0 lead on the only run it pushed across in five innings of work for first-time UO starter Josh Graham. The Ducks (25-19, 7-11 Pac-12) responded when Mark Karaviotis hit a one-out triple and came home on a single by Jakob Goldfarb. The Ducks remain at home for their next Pac-12 series, beginning Friday against Stanford in PK Park at 6 p.m.

Christian Donahue went 3-for-3 and Luke Heimlich tossed four scoreless innings in relief to send the Oregon State baseball team to a 9-6 win over USC Sunday afternoon at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. The win gives the Beavers their second consecutive series victory and pushes Oregon State’s record to 27-13 overall and 10-8 in Pac-12 Conference play. The Trojans, meanwhile, dropped to 30-12 overall and 11-7 against league foes. Oregon State hits the road for a three-game series at Washington. The series opens Thursday night with a 5:05 p.m. PT first pitch, and it will air live on the Pac-12 Networks.
