Oregon’s men open the Pac-12 basketball season at Utah in Salt Lake City tonight, 5 p.m. Oregon State’s men will play at Colorado, 7 p.m.

Oregon State senior guard Roberto Nelson was named the Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season, Commissioner Larry Scott announced. Nelson averaged 20.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists to lead the Beavers to a 2-1 record this past week with wins over George Mason (58-54) and Quinnipiac (76-68). He also knocked down 26 of his 28 free throw attempts (92.9 percent), including a perfect 10-for-10 in the win over George Mason. The Santa Barbara, Calif., native was also honored as the Pac-12 Player of the Week on Nov. 18 when he averaged 27.5 points and 7.0 assists, while shooting 52.9 percent (18-of-34) from the field and 88.9 percent (16-of-18) from the free throw line, in wins over Portland (79-73) and Maryland (90-83). Nelson leads the Pac-12 in scoring at 21.4 points per game and recently moved into 10th on Oregon State’s career scoring list with 1,339 points.
