Duck Kicker added to Watch List
Oregon sophomore Aidan Schneider was named Thursday to the 30-player preseason watch list for the Lou Groza Award as the nation’s best placekicker. Schneider, who joined the Ducks as a walk-on out of Portland last fall, made 11-of-12 field-goal attempts in 2014. He handled the majority of attempts after taking over at midseason from Matt Wogan, though Wogan is expected to compete for the job again this preseason. After making his first attempt at Cal, Schneider ended up making seven straight to open his career. That included a 40-yard kick in Oregon’s 45-16 win over Stanford, and a 42-yarder as Schneider went 3-for-3 in the Ducks’ win at Utah.
OSU Back on Watch List
Oregon State University senior running back Storm Barrs-Woods has been named to the “watch list” for the 79th annual Maxwell Award, presented to the nation’s top college football player. Barrs-Woods, who has changed his name to honor his mother, has compiled 2,183 career rushing yards in his Beaver career to rank seventh in school history. The human development and family sciences major has 3,115 all-purpose yards (932 receiving) to rank 13th in Beaver history and is on the cusp of joining Jacquizz Rodgers (2008-10) as the only OSU players to reach the 2,000-yard rushing and 1,000-yard receiving plateaus. The Pflugerville, Texas native has started a team-high 31 career games and rushed for over 100 yards in a game six times. He also has 111 career receptions, fourth historically among Beaver running backs. Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced November 2, while the three finalists for each award will be unveiled November 23. The winners of the 2015 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show held December 10.
