Duck Track Coaches Honored
Oregon head coach Robert Johnson was named the men’s and women’s National Coach of the Year and distance coach Andy Powell won men’s National Assistant Coach of the Year, the USTFCCCA announced, Wednesday. This comes days after the men and women swept the team titles at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the first time in school history. The men’s team defended its national title with 89 points and the biggest winning margin in 21 years (29 points). The women’s team finished with 59 points, nine ahead of second-place Kentucky. Johnson has loaded up on national coaching awards in recent years. Since becoming associate head women’s coach in 2010-11 and program head in 2012-13, he’s won nine out of twenty possible national coach of the year awards for indoor and outdoor track & field. In his time as head coach he has led the Ducks to a combined five track and field national championships, indoors and outdoors.

Hamblin Named To Canadian National Team
Oregon State women’s basketball center Ruth Hamblin has been named to the Canadian National Team for this summer’s World University Games, which will be played in South Korea. She will join fellow Beaver Sydney Wiese who will play for USA Basketball at the event, which will run from July 3-14. The Canadian squad will prepare for the University Games by competing in an exhibition tournament in China, which will see them play six games from June 22-28. Teammate Jamie Weisner will also join the Canadian team during the exhibition games. Hamblin and Weisner have both earned extensive experience in the Canadian National system over the last few years. Most recently, Hamblin joined the Senior Women’s National Team for an exhibition tour of Europe last summer. Weisner played with the Senior National Team in Spain last month, and traveled with Canada’s Senior B National Team to Taiwan in August of 2014, helping the team to a tournament championship while averaging 10.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
