In his last appearance wearing an Oregon uniform, Joseph Young gave the Ducks one more Herculean performance. The freshly crowned Pac-12 player of the year saw his UO career come to end Sunday night in Oregon’s 72-65 NCAA Tournament loss to Wisconsin. But not before he scored a game-high 30 points, on a night when no other Duck reached double figures until fellow senior Jalil Abdul-Bassit’s three-pointer at the final buzzer. Young shot 12-of-25 for the game, with two three-pointers. His 265 field goals this season were eight fewer than Terrell Brandon’s record 273 in 1990-91, and Young’s 91 three-pointers as a senior are fourth-most in UO history. He also finished as the Ducks’ all-time leading free-throw shooter for a single season (.925) and career (.900).

The Oregon State women’s basketball team’s quest for its first Sweet 16 berth since 1983 fell short on Sunday as Gonzaga knocked off the Beavers 76-64 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament before a crowd of 5,071 at Gill Coliseum. The Bulldogs (26-7) broke a 64-64 tie and scored the final 12 points of the game in defeating the Beavers (27-5) for the first time in their history. Gonzaga, making its seventh consecutive NCAA appearance, will now play the winner of tomorrow’s game between Pittsburgh and Tennessee on Saturday at the Spokane Regional. The Bulldogs defeated George Washington in their first regional game.

Trever Morrison’s one-out double in the 11th inning sent the Oregon State baseball team to a 2-1 win over Washington State Sunday, sending the Beavers to a sweep of the Cougars. Christian Donahue singled to open the inning, moved to second on an errant pickoff attempt and then went to third when Jeff Hendrix grounded out to first. Morrison then hit the second pitch he saw from reliever Ian Hamilton to the track in right for the game-winner. Because Donahue had not scored by the time Morrison hit second, the game-winner was ruled a double and capped off a 3-for-4 day for the sophomore. His double was the last of eight for the Beavers, whose sweep sent the club to a 4-2 record in Pac-12 Conference play. OSU improved to 18-5 overall. Oregon State stays at home for the next five games, which are all non-conference. The Beavers continue the homestand with games Tuesday and Wednesday against San Jose State, which both start at 5:35 p.m. PT. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by visiting BeaverTickets.com or calling 800-GOBEAVS.
