As senior days go, this probably wasn’t what Courtney Ceo envisioned when she first came to Oregon.  It drizzled during the pregame ceremony at Howe Field to honor Ceo, Kailee Cuico and Alexa Peterson. There were rain delays of 34 and 36 minutes. And ultimately, a weather-shortened 2-2 tie for the No. 1 Ducks in their series finale with No. 3 Arizona State on Sunday.  “Today was definitely a little different,” Ceo said with a laugh before helping her teammates tarp the field following the sixth and final inning.  The Sun Devils and Ducks each scored twice in the fifth inning, and Oregon had a runner on first with one out when the second rain delay began in the sixth. The Ducks were given the chance to end it despite continuing rain fall but were quickly retired once play resumed.  Thus was UO coach Mike White’s career record graced with its first tie, capping an entertaining series in which ASU took the opener and Oregon won by the run rule Saturday.  Still, there were positives for the Ducks (47-6-1, 18-2-1 Pac-12) to take even from the rare tie.

The Oregon State softball team scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, on its way to a 10-7 victory over UNLV Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas.  The Beavers tallied eight runs in the final three frames to overcome an early deficit. The late surge was highlighted by a three-run sixth-inning home run from junior CJ Chirichigno. She finished the day 5-for-5, setting a new school record for hits in a game. She also tallied five RBIs and a double in the contest.  The Beavers will return to action with a three-game series at Stanford, beginning on Thursday.

To say Jace Fry was sharp in Sunday’s start against California would be an understatement.  Fry was dominating Sunday, holding California to just one hit in a complete-game shutout of the Golden Bears in the Beavers’ 5-0 win at Evans Diamond. The win gave Oregon State (34-8 overall, 17-4 Pac-12 Conference) a sweep of California, the team’s fourth in Pac-12 Conference play this season.  Fry’s lone hit allowed came in the third when Vince Bruno opened the third with a single. He was, however, quickly erased as Fry forced the next batter, Robbie Tenerowicz, into a double play.  The outing marked Fry’s third complete-game shutout of the season and second in Pac-12 play after doing so against Utah.  He’s allowed just two hits in his last 17 innings of work after holding Oregon to one hit in eight innings last week. Fry had 11 strikeouts in the win over the Ducks; against Cal, he finished with six.  The lefty improved to 9-1 this season with the win, taking six of those victories against conference foes.

Shaun Chase entered the on-deck circle prior to his final at-bat Sunday hitting a cool .396 in Pac-12 play this season.  Oregon led 1-0 in the bottom of the eighth, and had runners on second and third with one out. Conventional wisdom said Arizona would be wise to walk Steven Packard and load the bases for Chase, setting up a possible inning-ending double play, or a force out at home.  Conventional wisdom was wrong.  Chase continued a torrid hot streak and capped a monster weekend with a grand slam to deep left-center field, the exclamation point on Oregon’s 5-1 victory over the Wildcats at PK Park. The Ducks (34-13, 13-8 Pac-12) completed a sweep of Arizona, and get another shot at Oregon State in a nonconference game Tuesday in PK Park at 6 p.m.
