Both Oregon and Oregon State won their collegiate football games Saturday to improve to 2-0 on the young season. The Ducks downed No. 7 Michigan State at home in Eugene, 46-27. The Ducks host Wyoming this weekend. Over in Hawaii, Oregon State downed the Rainbows 38-30. The Beavers have a bye this Saturday.

Bill Dellinger Invitational
Defending NCAA Champion Edward Cheserek led the third-ranked Men of Oregon to a big win Friday at the ninth annual Bill Dellinger Invitational cross country meet, run on a hot afternoon on Pre’s Trail in Alton Baker Park in Eugene. The Ducks won their 2014 season opener with 20 points, followed by Michigan State with 46, American with 80 and Portland State with 106. In the women’s race No. 6 Michigan State used a strong push in the middle of the race to win with 20 points. Portland was second with 46 points, No. 3 Oregon took third with 68 points, Oregon State was fifth with 120 points and Portland State was fifth with 131 points.

The hot streak continues for Oregon volleyball which won its sixth-straight match and second tournament of the season with a 3-1 victory against New Mexico at the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic, Saturday, 25-18, 24-26, 25-19, 25-19. Oregon will return home to face a ranked opponent in No. 14 Michigan State, Friday, Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. The new rankings will be released Monday but with an expected jump for the Ducks the contest could feature two closely-rated teams.

The Oregon State volleyball team remained undefeated on the season, besting SeattleU in straight sets (25-20, 25-22, 26-24). Katelyn Driscoll was named Tournament MVP of the Redhawk Invitational, while Mary-Kate Marshall and Laura Schaudt were also named to the all-tournament team. The Beavers return to the court for their home opener Friday, Sept. 12 at 5:30 when they welcome the University of Michigan.
