Junior lefty Jace Fry pitched eight innings of one-hit baseball and struck out a career-high 11 to lead Oregon State (31-8, 14-4 Pac-12) to a 7-1 victory over Oregon (31-13, 10-8 Pac-12) at Goss Stadium on Sunday, giving the Beavers a sweep of their Pacific-12 Conference series with the Ducks.

The No. 1 ranked Oregon softball team used another strong outing by Cheridan Hawkins and timely two-out hitting to beat the Cardinal, 7-2, and sweep the three-game Pac-12 series at Stanford.  The Ducks (46-5, 17-1 Pac-12) have swept five of the six Pac-12 teams they have faced this year, with their only league loss coming in the series finale versus then No. 1 ranked UCLA.  In Corvallis, Junior CJ Chirichigno and freshman Alexis Gonzalez both homered, but the Oregon State softball team (13-29, 3-16 Pac-12) was defeated by Washington 10-2 Sunday afternoon at the OSU Softball Complex.  With the blast, Chirichigno now has a home run in each of the Beavers’ last four series, giving her four homers on the season. Gonzalez’ shot was also her fourth home run of the year.

National Champion Ducks
In a grudge match and battle between the field’s top two seeds, Oregon won a fourth consecutive NCATA National Championship against Azusa Pacific with the second-highest meet score in NCATA history. The top-seeded Ducks defeated the host Cougars, 290.825-282.600, at the Felix Event Center, Saturday to seal a historic championship four-peat.  In front of a crowd of 2,088 fans, head coach Felicia Mulkey’s Ducks (12-1) avenged an earlier loss to the Cougars (7-3) by winning its third meet in the span of two days. Since the NCATA’s inception four seasons ago, the Ducks have posted a 43-3 overall record while winning four national championships, 30 event titles, 11 All-America honors, two athlete of the year accolades, a newcomer of the year honor and a coach of the year award.

He was awarded the High School Boys Athlete of the Meet in 2012 while a junior at St. Benedict Prep in New Jersey.
