The Oregon State softball team (23-12, 4-6) dropped the first game of the series against No. 18 Arizona Wildcats (29-9, 5-5) Thursday, 9-3. Mikela Manewa and CJ Chirichigno spearheaded the offensive efforts on the day, with both infielders hitting home runs in the game. Manewa homered on a 1-0 pitch in the bottom of the third, giving the Beavers a 1-0 lead over the Wildcats. It was Manewa’s fourth home run of the season and second during Pac-12 play. The Beavers will return to the field tomorrow, Friday April 3 at 3 p.m. for the second game of the series against Arizona.

Oregon’s softball team is at UCLA in Los Angeles Friday through Sunday.

Andrew Moore struck out eight in 7 2/3 innings and Christian Donahue’s ninth inning sacrifice fly proved to be the game winner as Oregon State defeated No. 7 UCLA, 3-2, Thursday night in the series opener at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Moore scattered four hits and a run – which was unearned – to get the win and improve to 3-1 this season. He was buoyed by a two-run sixth inning that saw the Beavers overcome an early 1-0 advantage by the Bruins (21-6 overall, 8-2 Pac-12 Conference). OSU scored its first run when Gabe Clark singled through the left side of the infield. He then scored the second run for the Beavers (22-7, 5-2) when Michael Howard walked on a 3-2 pitch by reliever Cody Poteet. The Beavers return to action Friday night when OSU and UCLA continue the series at 7:05 p.m. PT from Jackie Robinson Stadium. The game can be seen on the Pac-12 Networks – national, Oregon and Los Angeles.
