Oregon junior Marcus Mariota is on the preseason watch list for the Manning Award as the nation’s top quarterback, for which he was a finalist last season. The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, is voted on by a panel of media along with the Manning family, and takes into account bowl game performances. This season’s winner will be named Jan. 14, with finalists identified on Nov. 26. Mariota is also a preseason candidate for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, and the Maxwell and Walter Camp national player of the year awards. As a sophomore in 2013, Mariota completed 245-of-386 passes for 3,665 yards and 31 touchdowns with four interceptions. He ran for 715 yards despite being limited by a knee injury throughout November, giving him a school-record 4,380 yards of total offense for the season.

Oregon State senior quarterback Sean Mannion was named to The Manning Award watch list Thursday. The watch list for the Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, includes 32 of the top quarterbacks in the nation heading into the 2014 season. The winner will be selected by a voting panel, which includes the national media and each of the Mannings, after the bowls. Mannion, who will lead the Beavers as a team captain for the third straight season, followed up his Pac-12 record-setting season with a strong performance this summer winning the Elite 11 counselor’s challenge and the 2014 Manning Passing Academy Air-It-Out Challenge. He has rewritten the Oregon State and Pac-12 Conference record books during his tenure under center for the Beavers. In 2013, Mannion set the league’s single season passing record with 4,662 yards and a school-record with 37 touchdown tosses. He ranks second in OSU history – and 10th in Pac-12 lore – with 10,436 career yards through the air.
